After starting my own family in 2010, I realized how quickly the newborn stage of life passes by. Before you know it, rocking them to sleep turns into teaching them how to walk which becomes field trips at school.
There is no shortage of talented newborn photographers in our area, so how do you know what will be right for you? When you look back on your own childhood photos, which are your favorites? If they are the ones where you are snuggled into your mom or dad’s lap reading a book, or playing with your favorite toy, lifestyle photography is the perfect choice for your baby’s first photo session.
It’s about telling the story of your new family. It’s about the chair you fed her in every night. The couch where he slept on your shoulder all day. Their nursery theme you worked so hard on, the way they wrap their hand around your finger, and the way they stretch when you lay them down. All of the details of life with your incredible new baby.
Investing in your NoVa/Washington DC newborn photographer
The creative retainer is $1500 and includes:
– 2 hour in-home lifestyle session
– 25 high-resolution digital images
– behind-the-scenes keepsake film
– $250 in product credit
– complimentary maternity mini session
Creative retainers are due with contract to book your session and cover all the magic that happens on my end before, during, and after your session. You don’t pay for anything else until you’ve seen it and LOVE it.
Additional digital files will be available for the above photo sessions so you can customize to what works best for you. On average, you will see 1-2 photos per minute of shooting. Viewing and ordering is done conveniently via a private online gallery.
The product credit ensures your beautiful photos don’t just sit on your hard drive. I know how busy we get as parents and I am here to make this as easy as possible for your family to enjoy your images.

If you know you’ll want to document your new family for the first year, you may want to consider a First Year membership. This consists of 5 sessions: maternity, newborn, 4 months, 8 months, and 12 months. Each includes digital files and at the end you’ll also receive a beautifully designed heirloom photo album.
I will also create a short, behind-the-scenes keepsake film from your session for a fully immersive visual story. Having a video to remember all the little moments is incredibly special. The way your baby stretches, how you gently rock them to sleep, all those small movements that can’t be fully captured with photography alone. Wouldn’t you love to have that of you as a newborn with your family?

Each newborn session is different. Because mine are baby-led, we are going to have a relaxing photo shoot chatting about parenthood while I’m snapping away and you are loving on your precious new baby. There is no set schedule or plan; as a parent myself, I’ve learned to be adaptable.
Although this is a lifestyle photo session, I do offer gentle guidance for posing to get the ball rolling and help you settle in. I will also be sure to get one where everyone is looking at the camera, in addition to beautiful candid moments.
If you have a toddler, they are boss for the day. I will encourage siblings to participate in a way that gives them flexibility and control. This is all new for them, too, and it may take some time to warm up. The same goes for your fur-babies.
By coming to your home, you can relax in the comfortable environment of your own space. There will be plenty of time for snuggles, feedings, and that extra cup of coffee. I always invite siblings (and pets, often your first baby) to participate. This is such a magical time in all of your lives!
“What if my house is small/dark/messy/not straight out of a Pinterest board?”
Well, neither is mine, so rest assured as a professional (and a mom!) this is totally OK. Everyone has one good window and I can build your entire session around it, but I may be able to find perfectly beautiful light that is being overlooked. I will also do whatever de-cluttering needs to be done to prep your space for pictures. But if you’re still unsure, I can help you choose a beautiful location outside that perfectly reflects your taste and style. Or, perhaps a creative alternative indoors – like the library or your favorite coffee shop.
