First Year Membership
If you already know you’ll want to document your growing family throughout your baby’s first year, a First Year membership is the most meaningful way to do so.
This experience includes five thoughtfully timed sessions: maternity, newborn, 4 months, 8 months, and 12 months. Each stage captures a different chapter. Anticipation. Newness. Curiosity. Personality. Independence. When seen together, they tell a complete story, not just a series of milestones.
At the end of the year, those moments come together in a beautifully designed heirloom album. Not a highlight reel, but a narrative you can hold in your hands.
As your Northern Virginia newborn photographer, I’ll work closely with you across the year to preserve not just how your baby changes, but how your family does too. The way you hold them evolves. The way they look at you changes. The ordinary moments quietly become the ones you never want to forget.
What to Expect
When should I schedule my Northern Virginia Newborn Photographer?
I prefer to do most newborn sessions within the first two weeks after your baby is born. During this time, your baby is still very sleepy and spends most of the day curled up, which makes for sweet, cozy photos. However, lifestyle sessions are flexible, and we can capture beautiful images even if your baby is a bit older.
What should we do if our baby arrives earlier or later than expected?
As a preemie mama myself, I get it - babies are unpredictable! When you book your session, we’ll plan for an approximate timeframe based on your due date. Once your baby arrives, just let me know and we’ll finalize the exact session date.
How do you balance posed shots with candid moments in a lifestyle session?
Each Northern Virginia newborn photography session is different. Because mine are baby-led, we will have a relaxing photo shoot chatting about parenthood while I’m snapping away and you love your precious new baby. There is no set schedule or plan; as a parent, I’ve learned to adapt. Although this is a lifestyle photo session, I offer gentle guidance for posing to get the ball rolling and help you settle in. I will also be sure to get one where everyone is looking at the camera, in addition to beautiful candid moments.
What advice do you give to parents with toddlers to help them participate in the photos?
If you have a toddler, they are boss for the day. I will encourage siblings to participate in a way that gives them flexibility and control. This is all new for them, too, and it may take some time to warm up. The same goes for your fur babies!
By coming to your home, you can relax in the comfortable environment of your own space. There will be plenty of time for snuggles, feedings, and extra coffee.
What if I feel self-conscious in front of the camera?
Feeling self-conscious is natural, especially postpartum. My job as your Northern Virginia newborn photographer is to make you feel comfortable and confident. Lifestyle sessions are all about genuine moments, so there’s no pressure to pose perfectly. I’ll guide you with simple prompts to create authentic, heartfelt images.
What if my baby is fussy or won’t settle?
As a mama of two, I completely understand this. We’ll take breaks as needed, following Baby's cues and I’ll capture sweet moments during feeding or soothing.
What should we wear for the session?
I recommend soft, neutral tones that complement your home and keep the focus on your baby. Avoid busy patterns or bright colors, as they can be distracting. Comfortable, simple outfits work best.
How long does a newborn session last?
A typical newborn session lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, and breaks as needed. My goal as your Northern Virginia newborn photographer is to keep the session relaxed and unhurried so everyone feels at-ease.
How long will it take to receive our photos?
Viewing and ordering is done conveniently via a private online gallery, and you can expect to receive it within two weeks after the session.
Can I purchase prints or albums?
Yes! I offer an exclusive line of gorgeous handmade frames and album options to showcase your photos beautifully.
What if my house is small/dark/messy/not straight out of a Pinterest board?
Neither is mine, so as a professional (and a mom!) this is totally OK. Everyone has one good window, and I can build your entire Northern Virginia newborn photography session around it. I may even find incredible light that is being overlooked. There’s also no need for a full makeover; just tidy up the spaces where we’ll be shooting, like the nursery, master bedroom, or living room. Open curtains or blinds to let in as much natural light as possible. I will also do whatever additional de-cluttering needs to be done to prep your space for pictures, and, I’ll guide you in choosing areas with the best light and composition.
If you’re still unsure about your space but love lifestyle photos, I can help you choose a beautiful alternate location that perfectly reflects your taste and style. We can move outside if weather allows, or choose a creative alternative indoors, like a local bookstore or your favorite coffee shop. We can even rent a home-like space (think Airbnb but for creators).
Can we dress baby like a bumble bee and pose them inside of a tulip?
As a lifestyle Northern Virginia newborn photographer, I believe your baby is perfect exactly as they are. My job is to document the way they stretch, yawn, and curl their fingers around yours. With that in mind, I recommend keeping it simple with a white well-fitting onesie and a swaddle blanket. Check out SpearmintLove for unique swaddles that complement every nursery theme. Keeping it minimal ensures we keep the focus on their delicate features and your deep connection with them.
