10 Must-Try Restaurants with Outdoor Seating in Northern Virginia

I don’t know about you, but now that the weather is warming up I can’t wait to dine outside! Here are 10 must-try restaurants with outdoor seating across Northern Virginia to add to your dining bucket list:

  1. Trummer’s – Clifton, VA

Located on Main Street in a historic town born out of the Civil War, Trummer’s is the creation of a husband and wife team, combining “small town charm with fabulous food and attentive service generally found in big food cities.” A playground of memorable cuisine showcasing the diverse agricultural community of Virginia, superb service, Virginia’s largest and most comprehensive wine program and a stunning ambiance await at Trummer’s.

Enjoy dining on the expansive patio surrounded by the historic town and landscaped backdrop. The patio includes heaters for cooler nights as well as a retractable awning for blocking the sun or even the rain. The patio is available year round for dining at lunch and dinner.

  1. The Secret Garden Cafe – Occoquan, VA

The Secret Garden Cafe is set in an 1840s home with a garden patio and team service. Every recipe is created in-house with global twists making it a unique experience with something for everyone.

  1. Passion Fin – Ashburn, VA

The patio is not super big so you’ll want to call ahead for more popular times, but it’s well worth it. This is my favorite spot for sushi in Northern Virginia, and they are educated on avoiding cross-contamination for gluten allergies.

  1. Wilson Hardware – Clarendon, VA

Wilson Hardware in Clarendon (a cool neighborhood in Arlington, VA) is set in a historic 1960s Virginia Hardware building. Wilson Hardware’s rooftop bar is one of its most popular spaces. Recently expanded to twice its original size, there is extensive new banquette seating and dining space. The area also has a new retractable rooftop system that can be opened or closed depending on the weather. And of course the rooftop is also heated for operation during colder months.

  1. Buffalo Wing Factory – Reston, VA

You should know by now this is my absolute go-to for wings! Buffalo Wing Factory in Reston (as well as Ashburn, Chantilly, and Leesburg) aims to elevate America’s beloved bar food – chicken wings. You can customize your order from a choice of over 30 delicious sauces and dry seasonings ranging from classic Buffalo to unique flavors like Thai chili and the Flavor of the Month. They also have a list of craft cocktails and local beers. All of the locations have been recently renovated and feature one or two large covered patio areas.

  1. Fireworks Pizza – Leesburg, VA

A Leesburg staple since 2006, Fireworks Pizza in Leesburg has perfected the art of wood-fired, Neapolitan-style pizza winning “Loudoun Times Mirror Best of” contest many times over. They recently renovated their outdoor deck, and there are heaters for chilly nights. My favorite part is the doggy menu (yep, well behaved dogs are always welcome!) They are also always happy to accommodate any dietary needs.

  1. Kazan – McLean, VA

Northern Virginia’s best Turkish restaurant (described as “legendary,” per my husband) is Kazan in McLean. They’ve been around since 1980, making them a staple in the community with a devoted fan-base to the chef-owner. The outdoor seating area is covered and has fans and heaters.

  1. Barca Pier & Wine Bar – Alexandria, VA

Barca Pier & Wine Bar in Alexandria provides a delightful waterfront dining experience along the Potomac River. The menu features Spanish-inspired small plates and tapas complemented by an extensive wine list and craft cocktails. The energetic ambiance and panoramic views make it a popular spot for drinks and socializing.

  1. Thai Tyme – Chantilly, VA

Thai Tyme in Chantilly has developed a loyal following. It’s unsuspecting from the outside set in a strip mall, but the food is fresh and flavorful with a lovely outdoor seating area. The casual, family-friendly restaurant offers a great introduction to authentic Thai flavors.

  1. Local Provisions – Sterling, VA

Local Provisions in Sterling is chef-driven by a family that lives in the neighborhood. The outdoor patio has heaters for chilly evenings and is under a pergola to create a lovely midday shade.

Which of your favorite restaurants with outdoor seating in Northern Virginia made this list? What local restaurants would you add? Tell me in the comments!
