Today we’re talking about how to capture the happiest smiles from your kids during your next photo session with a professional Virginia family photographer.
I consider a smile truly happy when it isn’t forced – no gritted teeth here! This is always my goal. If you’ve never done a session with me, I am super chatty with the kids. I ask lots of questions, and it may be several minutes before I even touch my camera. Rest assured, I will NOT forget to take your pictures!! This is part of the experience of creating joyful imagery. Connect, build rapport – otherwise I’m just some random person with a camera telling you what to do, and that’s no fun. My job is to make the process having family photos taken enjoyable for everyone involved. Easy for you, fun for them.
You might know I specialize in school portraits. I only have 1-2 minutes with each child, so I’ve come up with some sure-fire ways of getting those natural, happy smiles from them. Today I’m sharing a few of my tricks!
There were a lot of bugs, and I asked her if she would take them home with her. All of them. Just for the day. Then she could bring them back after I left. She was having a blast climbing on everything, so I just ran with it!She told me she was going to a birthday party, and I asked if I could come 🙂This little guy just thought the entire process was so funny, so I was just laughing right along with him! The more he laughed, the more I laughed, which made him laugh even more! When this guy told me he was 5 I asked him if he had a job yet. Then he told me all about his plans to open a pop stand!Big Bro told me he doesn’t “really DO pictures” and I, of course, completely flabbergasted, asked Little Bro what that even means and he jumped right on board, like, “what DOES that even mean?!”Teenagers!! This age can be hard. I asked her to show me what the cool kids are doing these days. She did this little peace sign and that made her smile naturally 🙂
