There are so many words that come to mind when I think of the wild maternity photography in Northern VA I had with this beautiful woman and owner of Mama to Mama Doula, who is due in the coming weeks with her 3rd precious baby. But I’m not sure any of them would even do her justice.
“When you have come to the edge of all light that you know and are about to drop off into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly.” – Patrick Overton
Jocelyn was one of the first moms I photographed for the Public Breastfeeding Awareness Project; it was the photo of her breastfeeding while food shopping that went viral.
Her oldest son was diagnosed with Leukemia just days ago (click here to follow his crusade). Jocelyn is a fighter. She moves forward when life seems impossible. I was not at all surprised when she asked for less than traditional maternity photos, featuring the woven wrap she received when she was training to become a doula and some amazing tattoos, and I was equally as excited to do this for her. There were no poses. It was just a mom breathing in the calm and peacefulness of nature to keep it with her as she is about to embark on two life changing journeys simultaneously.
