Nesting.

Every woman is affected by pregnancy differently. Some are more emotional than before, some are hungry all the time… for me, I nest. With my daughter I insisted we paint the entire interior of the house. This time, I am insisting we organize. A place for everything and everything in its place. Even my daughter is doing her part by ensuring shoes are lined up neatly by the front door – without being asked.

Pinterest has, much to my husband’s dismay, become a household word these days. Roughly translated, it means “Please enjoy this list of things that I never knew could be done but now need to be done immediately.” Here are some examples of the changes we’ve been making around the house. Perhaps you’ll feel inspired to do some pre-Spring Cleaning organization!

Now I can hang my measuring spoons/cups neatly in my baking cabinet. I organized the cups by set but the spoons by size.

Two of the kitchen cabinets, before.

After. It’s not perfect, but it’s much more efficient and functional now.

After. Our breakfast station!

I failed to take a picture of it, but the cabinet above our little breakfast station was filled with wine glasses that we sadly boxed up and put in the garage (don’t worry, we still have plenty out on the wine rack in the dining room.) The large, corner cabinet is now empty (*gasp*) but we’ll soon be moving some of the smaller kitchen appliances in from the laundry room. And in addition to the three cabinets I’m showing you, we also organized: the awkward space above the microwave, half into a medicine cabinet, which is as far out of our daughter’s hands as we can possibly get, and half for our knife block and scissors; another set of double cabinets, one side for my husband’s cooking cabinet and coffees/teas on the other; and my baking cabinet.

Please feel free to share links to your favorite ways to organize – I have a whole house to finish and only a few months of nesting left to blame it on.
