Isn’t it funny how ‘the S word’ changes as we age? We’re here today with some information on every moms favorite S word: stretch marks! Danielle is the incredibly talented director behind the Rising Stars program at the Loudoun School of Ballet, where we had the pleasure of meeting her years ago. My girls love her positive energy and she brings that same enthusiasm to her work with EVER. I am super excited to learn more about how to prevent and how to treat stretch marks!
All About The S Word: Stretch (Marks)
Mothers all deserve badges of honor for raising our beautiful babies, but why do our badges have to include ropy, red and purple stretch marks? Many women ask what causes these scars we wear proudly, and what we can do to prevent them?
Stretch marks (or striae as they are known in the medical community) are an actual tear in the dermis, caused by literal stretching of the skin. This occurs during pregnancy as women’s skin expands to meet the rapid growth of the baby developing inside the uterus. While there is no complete cure for stretch marks (sometimes they are even genetic), there are some ways to help prevent and treat them.
Stay hydrated! Water helps nourish the skin and keep it moisturized, especially during pregnancy.
Keep active! We all love our pickles and ice cream during this “free for all” time, but keep in mind that exercise will increase blood flow, which will feed the skin.
Massage your belly and keep skin hydrated from the outside to lock in moisture. Choose a safe, toxin free skin care product, like EVER Skin’s LAVISH Body Butter. This clinical grade, ultra rich body butter infuses skin with a proprietary Superfruit Complex including cocoa butter, apple, blackberry, cranberry, pomegranate, sweet cherry and kiwi seed oils, delivering a powerful blend of anti-oxidants to reveal velvety smooth, firmer, glowing skin.
Follow treatment every day to establish regularity in your routine. Your belly will thank you for it!
