Have you been wondering about family yoga? My daughter took yoga as an after school activity (led by her fabulous art teacher) and I was so inspired that I took a few classes myself. But what about going together? Chelsea is here to share all about the benefits of and why you should take a family yoga class.
Family Yoga
You know you need to get into a yoga class. But there are so many other things happening with the kids, work, and all of your other obligations, how can you possibly squeeze ONE MORE thing into your week? You could squeeze them all together and check out a local family yoga class.
Family yoga creates positive change. We could all use a little positive change in our lives.
When you take a family yoga class, you are challenging everyone in your household to put down the screens, let go of the chore lists, forget the finances, and just breathe. Mindfully moving together through simple postures gives you all a chance to shake the dust out of your minds and open up new ways of thinking and feeling. You get the benefits of a gentle yoga class and the benefits of spending time with those you love the most.
Plus, you don’t have to worry about childcare!
In family yoga classes, you get time to focus on yourself and your family without distractions. You create space for activities that naturally encourage bonding, whether through fun yoga sequences (and the resulting giggles and fist bumps) or through the biomechanics of yoga that release oxytocin (the “love” hormone). You show your family that they are important and that you enjoy spending time with them, not just running them from activity to activity. You are all enjoying the same activity and learning important life skills in the process.
What does a family yoga class look like? Generally, family yoga has a slower pace to allow younger kids, older family members, or anyone who “isn’t a yogi” to participate. There aren’t complicated yoga postures, but more of a focus on having fun and encouraging healthy family dynamics through breath, balance, and movement. Family yoga classes give everyone a chance to use their breath for calming and self-regulation, their voice for co-creating unique family memories, and their personal strengths while learning to work and have fun as a family.
Check out a family yoga class and mindfully enjoy the time you are together with your loved ones. Be a kid with your kids while you gain tools for mental, emotional, and physical wellness.
